Smash It Up!
Even though it’s only six months into the year, I’ve decided to make a start on one of my New Year’s Resolutions; to blog more often. My aim is to post something every couple of weeks, or once a month at the very least. The only trouble with this plan is that it that I lead a very insular and mundane life these days, and as I’m skint most of the time – I rarely go out. This is not conducive to writing interesting or amusing blog posts.
To get the ball rolling I’ve decided to share this video – which I find incredibly funny – and is taken from a Panorama documentary, filmed in the 70s and focusing on young vandals in Hoxton. Today, this area of East London is a hipster haven – full of wanky web agencies (like mine) – but this was not always the case. The video consists of a series of interviews with local teenage ne-er do wells, who can probably be found propping up the bar at the Marksman pub in Hackney Rd on a daily basis today (as can I – on work nights). Although the kids featured are obviously horrid little shits, it still feels quite innocent in comparison to now, where the Hackney yute of today would probably stab you before even considering smashing your your windows.
